Guidelines for General Submissions

INTRODUCTION

The Al-Karkari Institute for Sufi Studies welcomes submissions from scholars, writers, and seekers who wish to engage with Islamic mysticism and explore the multifaceted dimensions of Sufism through various disciplines. We encourage contributions that not only focus on the teachings of Shaykh Mohamed Faouzi al-Karkari (Quddisa Sirruh) but also adopt a multidisciplinary approach, connecting Sufi thought with other fields. We accept unsolicited submissions, but we encourage you to familiarize yourself with our editorial vision and previously published materials to understand our focus and style.

Editorial Vision

The Al-Karkari Institute for Sufi Studies values well-written contributions that engage with the diverse dimensions of Sufi thought, whether through rigorous academic analysis or personal reflections. We welcome both scholarly works that dive deep into complex ideas and more personal explorations of spiritual experiences. Our goal is to create a space that fosters genuine engagement with Islamic mysticism in all its forms, encouraging submissions that are clear and thoughtful.

All submissions undergo a review process, which may include suggestions for revisions to ensure that the work aligns with our editorial standards and resonates with our diverse readership.

WHAT WE PUBLISH

The journal will publish a wide range of scholarly content, including:

Translations of Shaykh Mohamed Faouzi al-Karkari's Interventions

We welcome portions of translations that focus on the Shaykh's teachings, whether they are his discourses, writings, or commentaries. Submissions should reflect an understanding of his spiritual insights and aim to bring his wisdom to a broader audience.

Translations

Scholarly translations of Sufi texts, accompanied by commentary to contextualize the work.

Essays

We invite essays of 1,500 words or more that engage with Islamic mysticism or related topics from either an academic or religious perspective.

Essays should adhere to academic standards, including proper citations and references, and offer a well-structured analysis that demonstrates a profound engagement with the subject matter. We also welcome essays that incorporate a multidisciplinary approach, connecting Sufi thought with fields like biology, mathematics, or other areas of study.

Meditations

Meditations are reflective pieces of at least 500 words that delve into personal experiences, contemplations, or reflections. These writings are less formal in style but are essential in capturing the intimate nature of Sufi practice, individual realizations, and unique voices.

Poems and Poem Translations

We accept original poems and translations of classical or contemporary poetry that align with Sufi themes.

Multidisciplinary Submissions

We are open to innovative submissions that connect Islamic mysticism with other disciplines, such as the natural sciences, mathematics, philosophy, and the social sciences. These works should aim to explore the intersections between Sufi thought and broader fields of knowledge, offering new perspectives and insights.
