In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Ever Merciful

A PATH OF VISION AND SECRETS

The Tariqa Karkariya, founded by Shaykh al-Karkari, is a

living way to Knowledge of and nearness to God.

A REVIVAL OF THE SHADHILIYYA

It is a tariqa of spiritual secrets based on vision

about which the Shakyh says:

”Our Tariqa is the tariqa of visions. Those who do not see are not my disciples and I am not their Shaykh.”

The Shaykh's book, The Foundations of the Karkariya Order, articulates the seven foundational principles of the tariqa, as enshrined in the sacred Qur'an and Hadith of the holy Prophet.

These foundations are embedded in an aphorism that bequeath unto the seeker a guiding lantern, lest they lose their way and veer off the Path. The Shaykh says: "abase yourself and exalt others."

ON PRINCIPLES

The Pact

The word ʿahd (pact) means a covenant (mīthāq), oath (yamīn), or promise (waʿd).

In the Terminology of the Karkariya: the pact denotes a pure proclamation of divine oneness (tawḥīd), as expressed at the moment when the first Covenant was taken in the [pre-cosmic] World of the Seed (ʿālam al-dharr) with the children of Adam, and wherein lies the locus of witnessing and true cognizance of the soul.

The Patched

Cloak

The patched cloak is an expression of self-concealment in the garb of the Essence's beauty. This divine beauty, which remains non-manifest in the differentiation of the Names, discloses itself in the colors of the Higher Bow.

ON PRINCIPLES

Gathering

The ḥaḍra is one of the allusions of the Sufi Tribe.

It symbolizes the gathering of the divine Names within the Hāʾ of the all-encompassing Name of the Essence. For those whose inner vision is opened by the kāf of kaʾannaka tarāh, 'as if you saw Him,' it symbolizes the eternal Handful (qabḍa abadiyya) that discloses itself through the pre-eternal beauty of the Real.

ON PRINCIPLES

Seclusion

The word khalwa means a place of solitude where a Sufi goes to engage in worship.

It is to dwell in the tomb of life, in order to disengage from the sensory realm and journey to the world of pure meaning, while carrying the provision of the Name and practicing complete detachment, so that you may enter into the heart and keep the company of the Lord, till the veil is parted and inner vision is sharpened with the metal of eternity.

Name

The invocation of the Singular Name…illuminates the disciple's spirit, and gathers together all the divine secrets.

He who abandons it leaves the path of the Sufis as well as the Sunna of the Beloved and the Book of God, for there is no reading except in the Name of God, and the Name that brings together all His Attributes and points to His Essence is indeed the Name Allāh.

Secret

The sirr is the subtle reality of divine mercy. This immaculate reality is hallowed beyond the aspirations of servanthood which may deflower it. It is deposited within the kernel of the seed of the heart.

Wandering

Siyāḥa is a non-spatial journey in space, and a timeless journey in time. It is done on the principle of disengagement from other-than-God (tajrīd) and ascension through the levels of divine self-sufficiency (ṣamadiyya), all the while contemplating the signs of divine power.
