STEADFASTNESS
The Hour Before Dawn
4:00am comes around,
Lovers heed His call,
Following the purest sound
All gather in the prayer hall.
His oft-repeated name,
In the holiest of places,
Fires a bright flame,
Lighting up faces.
His eyes are shut, the disciple remembers,
Little by little he starts to wander,
Sat still, but indeed swimming
In the cosmos buried deep within.
Prayers upon the beloved he confers,
High above the heavens they are heard,
Flowing through holy springs and rivers,
A prayer upon him makes a heart quiver.
Allah, Allah, the hour before dawn,
Allah, Allah, One saviour for all,
He alone hears, granting generously,
He wipes away tears, ever so kindly.
The niche welcomes its beholder,
Opening up, a bewitching flower,
Look closer still under the sheikh's guidance,
Remove yourself, what glorious riddance.
The light shall burn bright and true,
Disclosing to the chosen few;
Those who accepted His friend as their guide,
For only he can truly ease their plight.
One Lord, one messenger, one friend.
One tree, lofty from root to leaves' end,
Curl under its trunk, seeking solace,
To soar towards gnosis, such is His kindness.
Mid remembrance, the disciple prostrates
Reminded he is of the turn of the fates,
One day a servant is The Peacock of Angels
Next one knows, he is the cursed devil.
To keep firm on this path is our prayer and hope,
Shall we stray away, may we be tied with ropes,
Shall we forget this joy, may we be set ablaze,
Shall we fall prey to our ego, may He burn us out of our daze.
