EGO DEATH, RESURRECTION

The Slaughter of Birds

With us…

Light has always been…

Only shrouded in darkness…

Suffocating under veils!

Gurgling blood…

Choking on my nafs!

When I confessed my state

He smiled…

Warmly as the sun!

His words golden rays

Embracing my cold heart

Saying…

Let me tell you of your state…

It is that of Seyyidina Ibrahim (as)

Who yearned to know…

And asked his Lord:

“Teach me the way in which you resurrect the dead?”

For surely he believed

But wished to firm his faith…

He was instructed…

To slaughter four birds!

And to disperse them…

Among the nearby hills…

When called forth…

They came back flying!

In the same way, said my Shaykh

We slaughter your nafs…

Until it is called back…

As a new creation!

In health…

And wholeness!

My heart rejoiced upon hearing his words…

As though my ears were lips tasting nectar!

My heart began to flutter and sing

No longer mourning death…

But celebrating birth!
