WAYFARING
All Are Called
If I could be called to the Path,
With the darknesses in my past,
Then the Light is open to all.
But who will seek it but the one in despair?
Closed in all sides by the grip of his vices?
Drowning in sea upon sea of blackness¹.
Or the one who cannot wait for the Resurrection,
To catch a glimpse of His Face,
Is all not perishing but Him²?
Be not like the one who only calls Him in crisis,
Forgetting Him the moment his world is repaired,
Oh what self deception!³.
So where are you going?⁴
Bala! There is no god but God.
What deceives you concerning your Lord?⁵
He called and we answered⁶,
We call and He answers⁷,
Allah⁸.
¹ "Or [they are] like darknesses within an abyssal sea..." (Q 24:40)
² "Everything will perish except His Face" (Q 28:88)
³ Referencing verses about those who call Allah only in distress (Q 17:67, Q 29:65)
⁴ "Then where are you going?" (Q 81:26)
⁵ "O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous?" (Q 82:6)
⁶ "Am I not your Lord?" They said: "Bala! (Yes!)" (Q 7:172)
⁷ "He answers the caller when he calls" (Q 2:186)
⁸ "Say, 'Allah!' Then leave them to their vain discourse" (Q 6:91)
